The story/meaning behind the name Grayscale is….Back when we started the band about four years ago, we were all really stoked on the Ipswich-based band, Basement. They have a song called “Grayscale” that we all thought/still think is badass so we decided to name the band after it.

We met each other….From playing in local bands together. We (Collin, Nick, and Dallas) all played in a band together in high school. When that band broke up, we decided to form a new band which became Grayscale. We were familiar with Derek and Andy having seen them play in other local bands, so we decided to bring them in after becoming friends with them. Everyone just clicked right away, it was awesome.

The pickiest eater in the band is….Nick, easily. He only eats plain bagels with butter. No cream cheese or extra toppings… just plain with butter. He also drinks way too much cranberry juice. It doesn’t matter what time of day it is. He won’t eat anything spicy or drink tap water either.

The most OCD member is….Collin is an asshole, he won’t leave his apartment if he has two different socks on.

For fun we like to….Throw on some knee pads and play full contact knee-football in Nick’s basement. Blood is usually shed. We also take Mario Kart very, VERY seriously. Super Smash Bros. as well. We challenge anyone to take us on. Seriously, bring it. We also love to watch and play hockey. Collin and Andy tear it up in NHL 15. Nick sucks and Dallas just starts fights with the computer players. Derek gets only trash goals.

We’re currently listening to….The Hotelier, Turnstile, Title Fight and The American Scene.

The first song we wrote together was….”Sunday

One thing we want you to remember while listening to our music is….These are real stories. We write about the things that are painful to talk about. This is a grieving process for Dallas and I (Collin) lyrically, the words are not bullshit. We put everything into this and want to make a difference for people who can relate, or just give people something to vibe to when they need it. We also want it to be known how much we appreciate the support of anyone who has been with us thus far.

The member(s) who writes most of our songs is….We all contribute to the songwriting process. Everyone brings unique influences and ideas to the table. It wouldn’t be Grayscale without any one of us.

We find inspiration from….Barry White, Claude Giroux and Dunkin’ Donuts coffee.

Change was recorded in….Boston, Massachusetts at Maximum Sound Studios. We worked with Gary Cioffi who is an incredible producer. The Change E.P. wouldn’t have turned out the same way if we had worked with anyone else. He understands our music and knows how to challenge us to improve our ideas and build on them. Just like us five click together musically, Gary works as almost the 6th member of the band, but from a production standpoint. Not every producer fits every band, but our band was meant to have Gary on board as our producer and engineer. He gets us like no one else we’ve ever worked with has.

If we play another band’s music it’s….Rage Against The Machine

Our craziest or most memorable gig was….One of our house shows at home. Shit was nuts. Then we had a pool party and played soccer until 3am in our friend Kevin’s yard with friends and fans during the summer.

The furthest we’ve ever traveled for a gig was….Nashville, Tennessee. We played a show down there with The Directive (R.I.P.), and Nick’s roommate in college, Garrett Hinson. It was awesome. There was a solid turnout and everyone was into the music. We’d go back in a heartbeat, no doubt.

Our last meals would be….

  • Steak burrito from Red Sombrero (Collin)
  • A bowl of Cap ‘n Crunch berries (Nick)
  • Pork burrito from Michoacana Grill (Dallas)
  • Hot wings (Andrew)
  • The biggest fucking New York strip known to man with caramelized onions and mushrooms, baked potato with all the fixings, and some asparagus. Pecan pie with vanilla ice cream on top for dessert. (Derek)

In the next six months you should expect….To see a lot from us including streams, videos, new music releases and much much more.
