SWMRS with The Frights & Young Hunger

“Some people think California is the place to be but never forget that Iggy Pop is from Detroit.” – SWMRS

Sunday night, Sophie and I made a trip to see SWMRS, who are touring in support of their recent release, Drive North. We attended their show at the Majestic in Detroit but they will be in Cleveland this Wednesday at Now That’s Class.

Opening last night’s show was local band, Young Hunger followed by San Diego band, The Frights.

The lengthy SWMRS set included leopard coats, edgy reverb, and lots of energy. The band’s hit track ‘Figuring It Out’ was definitely the highlight of the night. Despite the smll size of the youthful crowd, they filled the venue quite nicely. Per request of the band, there was even a (mini) wall of death.

My personal favorite tracks from the night were ‘Ruining My Pretending’ and their edgier rendition of ‘Miley’. The band definitely sounds different live than recorded but not in a negative way. Their track ‘Hannah’ was also super cool with its crazy reverb and slower tempo.

The band’s set was nearly an hour in length and they covered most if not all of the new record. SWMRS completed their set with the performance of the album’s title track, ‘Drive North’.

Be sure to check out more photos from last night in our gallery.
