Interview – Pentimento

Pentimento is a 4-piece punk rock band from New York consisting of Vincent Caito (bass, vocals), Lance Claypool (guitar), Michael Hansen (drums, vocals), and Jeramiah Pauly (lead vocals, guitar). In late 2012, the band put out their debut, self-titled LP. It was independently released and shared freely on the internet for all to hear. Their quickly accumulated and dedicated fans donated to help the band release their follow-up EP, Inside the Sea, in October of 2013. Danielle and I got to see them perform here in Cleveland last May at “It’s A Spring Fling” with other artists including Citizen and Man Overboard. I sent over some fill in the blanks to find out more about the band, their releases, and what they have planned for the future.

The meaning behind our name Pentimento and why we chose it is….”Pentimento” is an art term defined as the presence or emergence of earlier images, forms, or strokes that have been changed and painted over. We chose it because we thought it was very fitting idea for the four of us. The thought that we’re simply new versions of our old selves no matter what we do to cover up the past.

We met each other….We met playing shows alongside each other in different combinations of the four of us. It all started about a decade ago.

The pickiest eater in the band is….After touring so often, there’s no such thing as being a picky eater. Especially if it’s free.

The most OCD member is….I think we all have a fair amount of a need to organize and keep clean on the road. It makes everyone breathe easier.

For fun we like to….Eat Taco Bell.

We’re currently listening to….Goo goo dolls, well kept things, Manchester orchestra.

We find inspiration from….There’s inspiration in every single moment of the day. You just have to open yourself up to it.

Our musical influences include….Everything from Prince and Michael Jackson to Saves The Day and Hot Water Music.

The member(s) who does most of our writing is….Mike.

Pentimento was recorded in….2012 with Jay Zubricky at GCR Audio in Buffalo, NY.

One thing we want you to remember while listening to our music is….That we truly appreciate it.

Our craziest or most memorable gig was….Man, there’s been a lot of memories made during our time as a band. Every time we play at home it’s a beautiful thing. But we really appreciate the shows on the west coast because people are so cool to us and getting out that way is always fun.

Something odd our fans should know about us is….We’re all in bed by 11.

Our last meals would be….Waffle House egg & cheese sandwiches.

In the next six months you should expect….Hopefully new music and definitely some touring.

  1. The follow up EP to their self-titled was “Inside the Sea” not “Wrecked.” That was their first EP release in 2011.
