The following fill in the blanks come from UK-based band, A Room Swept White. This heavier post-hardcore 5-piece draws from artists such as Of Mice & Men and The Ghost Inside while maintaining their own unique sound. They released their EP, Unsettled, in the summer of 2013 which consisted of three tracks. My favorite is titled “Death Before Dishonor” but I also really enjoyed the instrumental between the songs simply titled “Interlude.” The band released a new music video in early December so in the meantime, read their fill in the blank responses and watch the video for “No Love Lost” below.
The meaning/story behind the name A Room Swept White is….We’re not entirely sure of the meaning… But our original vocalist, Billie, saw his mum reading the book shortly before a band practice. We needed a name and this one just stuck!
We met each other….Ryan and Alex knew each other for some time from school, and Alex B (original bassist) and James F were friends for several years before the band began. Everyone else in the band has been brought in through friends of friends each time we’ve needed to find a new member.
The pickiest eater in the band is….Not sure about picky… but James F is allergic to gluten, which makes for some pretty tense dinner decisions when we’re out and about at shows!
The most OCD member is….Probably Ryan… He’s quite obsessed with cleaning his hands after he touches anything!
For fun we like to….The usual band/student stuff! Games, clubbing, jamming together… I suppose the one typical band thing we don’t do is skate!
We’re currently listening to….All sorts of stuff! Probably mostly the latest releases from The Ghost Inside & Heart In Hand. Oh and we’re all pretty excited to see what else While She Sleeps come out with after hearing their newest material!
We find inspiration from….Most of our songs are written about situations we all encounter in life, and specific events that have affected Ryan and Alex (they write almost all the lyrics). We find the biggest inspiration for being in a band in general is looking at the other bands around us and those that have gone on to achieve bigger things.
The first song we wrote together was….We wrote ‘Looks That Kill’ at the first ever band practice, before we even had a bassist!
The member(s) who writes most of our songs is….Alex and Ryan write the lyrics, although the tracks themselves are written and arranged by Alex, James F and Michael.
Something we want you to remember while listening to our music is….That we’re just normal guys who love playing music!
If we play another band’s music it’s….Live? Raining blood by Slayer seems to be a bit of a favourite when we’re just mucking about at practice. We don’t do any covers at our shows but maybe we will one day! If you’re talking about listening to music… As a whole we’re massive Architects fans!
Our craziest or most memorable gig was….Probably the last time we played our hometown of Crawley. We put the show on ourselves, and the turnout was unreal! Such a great feeling when you get a whole room of people going mental and screaming your lyrics back at you!
The furthest we’ve ever traveled for a gig was….Probably North London… we haven’t been too far away from home yet which is a shame! We’re looking to get out and start touring next year so if you live up north or in Europe you might see us near you soon!
Our last meals would be….Probably really unhealthy stuff like pizzas and burgers… or maybe a kebab.
In the next six months you should expect….To see us a gig poster near you hopefully! We’ve got new merch being printed up this month, and we’re looking at getting a second music video out for another track from our upcoming EP, which is being released on Jan 12th!
